Playing with tension

Today, I wanted to create a sketch model to explore a moving finger mechanism. So, I sketched a rough diagram in my personal journal, and quickly created this:

I know that string is a very key part in a lot of mechanisms, one being puppetry. So I thought about the action of pulling, and how bits of paper could represents parts of our finger, and when pulled, the papers are clumped close together, tightening the tension, and therefore making it bend.

But this was not successful, as the pulling still requires a lot of extra support from the other hand, and the finger needs to be bent with just the strength of one hand pulling. Also, it looks awkward and not “finger like”, so I will have to find either a template of a finger, or create my own.
