Orinoco Scrapyard

For my weaving project, I need to create textiles pieces using unconventional materials, and after speaking to others who had previous projects with the same requirement, they recommended Orinoco scrapyard.

Located in Pete Moors and close to Slade Park, I found the scrapyard and it did not fail to impress me with the incredible amount of materials for such a cheap price- £3 to fill an entire plastic bag with anything! There were plastics, metals, fabrics, papers, and the most simplest but most effective objects you never thought could be used so easily in your own work. For me, it was the spongy remnants you get in a box where fragile deliveries are made,  or zig-zag cardboard strips that are perfect for textural effects.

I will definitely be coming back for future projects, as textiles constantly requires being inventive with new materials. This itself is a method of sustainability by re-using old objects!
